John Boyega Talks Superheroes and Takes on Stormtroopers While Playing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

The Rise of Skywalker may be the last we see of Finn in Star Wars, but it looks like John Boyega is just getting started. In this Esquire exclusive clip from Xbox Sessions, the actor talks about the movie franchises he’d like to join, now that he’s done with Star Wars (for now), and names the one superhero he’d want to play, if given the chance. No, it’s not a Marvel hero. It’s not even an American comic book hero, in fact.

Boyega is best known for his role as a renegade Stormtrooper in Disney’s new Star Wars trilogy, where Finn has been a hero for the Resistance and a strong ally of the Jedi ever since the House of Mouse restarted the franchise back in 2015. Boyega’s interests go far beyond just the Galaxy Far, Far Away, though. In this clip, you’ll see Boyega talk through what he’s hoping to see out of the emerging field of video game adaptation films—and he even name-drops a few legitimately below-the-radar titles like Prototype from Activision to show that he knows what he’s talking about.

While speaking with the folks at Team Xbox, Boyega also played the latest game in the Star Wars franchise, Fallen Order; you can read our review of the title here (spoiler: it’s difficult!). Aside from the joy of seeing Boyega wield a lightsaber for the first time since his not-so-successful scuffle with Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens, it’s hilarious to witness the actor chop down Stormtroopers in the game, whom he refers to as his “friends.” Guess he really is a traitor to the Empire.

You can watch Boyega’s full appearance on Xbox Sessions via the Xbox Youtube channel and the Xbox Mixer channel. Later this week, Mark Hamill, a.k.a. Luke Skywalker himself, will be on the show alongside gaming pro Ninja. Looks like it’ll be a pretty wild episode.
