Watch Jimmy Kimmel Get His First Colonoscopy with Some Help from Katie Couric

Eighteen years ago, Katie Couric did a brave-as-hell thing and had her colonoscopy televised on the TODAY Show. Her husband Jay had died of colon cancer just two years prior, at the age of 42, and Couric used her platform to emphasize the importance of screening and detection in the fight against the lethal disease.

In 2018, Couric is still fighting, and this time she brought Jimmy Kimmel for his own televised procedure—”donating his ass to awareness.” The late-night host turned 50 back in November, and Kimmel, like a lot of guys, was overdue for a checkup. Watch the clip below, and see “a camera go where no camera has ever gone before.”

Sure, just talking about it might prompt a few snickers. It sounds uncomfortable. Maybe even a little scary. But it’s nowhere near as scary as cancer treatments or facing the loss of a loved one. Your best bet is early detection. So please, get checked. If Kimmel can do it with a national audience, you can handle a private screening with your doctor.
