The Kollector Is the Newest Mortal Kombat 11 Character to Join the Roster 1

Friday’s Kombat Kast revealed an all-new playable character: “The Kollector.” While the part he plays in Mortal Kombat 11‘s story is unclear, we did get some lore and sweet gameplay footage showcasing this newcomer’s wonderfully unique skillset.

The Kollector is a multi-armed, Gollum-esque character with a huge variety of moves and a massive arsenal of weaponry at his disposal. He’s described as a “tax man,” collecting tributes for Shao Kahn.

The Kollector was born into poverty and seized his collections duty with a zeal that impressed Shao Kahn, becoming one of the Emperor’s most feared associates. As more of a corrupt, mafia enforcer than a government official, The Kollector stole riches from Outworld’s people, rewarding himself with wealth and status in turn, but when Shao Kahn died, Kotal Kahn vowed to weed out the former regime’s corruption. After years in hiding, living off his ill-gotten gains, The Kollector was captured and now faces execution, determined to destroy anyone in his path.

During the Kast, developers confirmed that while The Kollector is new to the roster, his lore goes back extremely deep in the game’s universe. For now, it remains to be seen how he will factor into the overarching past-meets-present story mode.

The gameplay preview reveals a variety of the weapons and tools he utilize in his role as a “Kollector.” We saw swords and maces and magic, along with a smooth and interesting move set making use of his multiple arms. The Kast spoke to how the character is very versatile, and thus extremely difficult to play.

The Kollector comes after a heavy stream of new characters to be confirmed for Mortal Kombat 11’s quickly growing roster, which now includes: Scorpion, Raiden, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Skarlet, Baraka, Geras, Kano, D’Vorah, Kabal, Jade, Johnny Cage, Cassie Cage, Erron Black, Jacqui Briggs, Kotal Kahn, Noob Saibot, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Jax Briggs, Cetrion and The Kollector.

Mortal Kombat 11 arrives April 13 on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
