Fortnite's World Cup Has a $30 Million Prize Pool That Anyone Can Try to Win 1

The official Fortnite World Cup is arriving in less than a month. And with it comes an unfathomable $ 30 million prize pool.

Epic Games’ bonafide pop culture phenomenon continues to take over the world with a fanbase that currently numbers in the 250 million range. The Fortnite World Cup, which begins on April 13, will start off by pitting solo players or duo teams against each other in a new “Arena” mode, released in v8.20. We’re not exactly sure what that will look like yet, but we know you need to clean up in it to move on in the ranks.

Like a sort of mad Charlie and the Chocolate Factory system, gamers who rock the Arena mode during the week can progress to the World Cup Semi-Finals on Saturday, and if they’re really good, compete in the Finals on Sunday, where $ 1 million will be split up among the best players. This cycle happens every weekend for 10 weeks.

But, whoever beats out the other children and scores a World Cup golden ticket invite will have a chance to go toe-to-toe with other top players in New York City in July, where the prize money will be pulled from that insane $ 30 million pool, Forbes reports.

Perhaps the wildest part of the whole thing is that Epic Games is really opening this up to literally any player who chooses to join the fray. While the battle royale mode has always encouraged a level playing field for all gamers, this $ 30 million (and then some) Victory Royale is an unprecedented moment in gaming history. Let’s hope whoever wins the esports tournament is a good kid like Charlie Buckets, and not some raging, racial slur-spewing shithead like some of the gamers who crept out of the woodwork lately.
